Tripoli and Libya- Useful Information

 

What should I bring with me to Tripoli?

·     A photocopy of your passport — as it is always advisory to carry your ID with you

·     Insurance — you are responsible for arranging your own travel cover

·     Credit card — Credit cards especially Visa are accepted at the main hotels and some restaurants. Cash points can be found in some hotels.

·     Medical Kit — always a good option just in case

·     Your mobile phone — most international networks (not 02) can pick up the local ones in Libya.

·     A smile — things do take longer sometimes but people are genuinely kind in Libya, a smile goes a long way!

·     Do not bring: alcohol, as it is banned in Libya.

·     Sun block or sun tan lotion — the sunshine is likely to be strong so it is advisable to protect yourself.

 

What currency do they use in Libya?

The currency of Libya is the Libyan Dinar which comes in notes of 20, 10, 5, 1, 0.5 and 0.25 LD’s. At the moment, the exchange rate is £1 = 2.5 LD. Hotels, foreign exchange bureaux and banks will change all international and Middle Eastern currencies.

 

What will the weather be like in Tripoli?

February is one of the mildest months of the year in Tripoli, with average minimum temperatures of 11 C and an average daily maximum of 19 C. There are on average six hours of sunshine per day, during this period. It is also a relatively dry period with on average of five days of rainfall in total throughout the month.

 

What voltage is used?

If you are taking any electronic items to Libya, the voltage requirement is 220-40V. Do not forget to bring an international travel adaptor, as there various types of plug sockets.

 

What time zone is Libya in?

GMT +3 (Libya does not recognize Daylight Saving Time)

 

What language in spoken in Libya?

Arabic is the official language, but English are spoken in major cities. Regional variations of

 

Berber are found in select areas.

 

Can I drink the water in Libya?

It is always recommended to drink bottled water but tap water in Libya is safe.

Airport transfers (Fill out Form 2)

For participants’ airport pick up on arrival and drop off on your return journey is included in your package. However in order for us to do this, please fill out the relevant section in Form 2 which asks you to detail your flight number and arrival/departure times for ELTEX 2008.

 

Flight reconfirmation

We will gladly reconfirm your return flight for you. If you would like us to do this, please bring your ticket to the registration desk at the Dat El Imad Complex at opening time of the exhibition on 13 February 2008.

 

Do not forget! To register your passport!

It is mandatory that when you are in Libya, you need to register your passport with the immigration authorities. This service is provided automatically by the Corinthia Bab Africa Hotel, however in the Bab Al Bahr Hotel, it is NOT! Despite constant reminders last year people did not register their passports. This year, all passports of people staying in the Bab Al Bahr Hotel will be registered by us.

Visa Information for Participants

AME Trade Ltd will be organising a lodge and collect passport service for visa applications to Libya for participants only who are applying at the Libyan People’s Bureau, London, United Kingdom. If you are a British Citizen applying outside of the United Kingdom, we will be able to obtain your visa codes but you will have to lodge your passport yourself at the nearest Libyan People’s Bureau. Please follow Steps 1 & 2 ( if you are outside of the UK only, all UK based participants to follow Steps 1 – 4 inclusive)

 

 

How does this service work?

 

Step 1: Please fill in Form I with all the relevant information so that we can obtain visa code for the immigration authorities in Libya. Please send these details with a scanned copy of the information page in your passport attached, preferably by email. Please note that if you do not hold a British passport but are resident/working in the UK, please send along with your scanned passport, proof of this ie UK work permit or resident’s stamp (non EU citizens) or employers letter and utility bill (EU citizens).

 

Step 2: Within ten working days, AME Trade Ltd will receive your visa telex code, which is a unique number that will be sent by the immigration authorities in Tripoli to the Libyan Embassy (People’s Bureau) in London.

 

Step 3: AME Trade Ltd will notify you immediately & send you the green Libyan visa application by email. Please fill this form in as soon as possible and return it by registered post to AME Trade Ltd with the following information:

 

•    Your passport which has to have six months validity and 2 blank pages inside.

•    4 color passport photos

•    Your flight itinerary (it is advisable to hand a copy in with your application)

•    A letter of sponsorship from your company addressed to the Embassy stating that they will be covering all the financial aspects of your trip.

•    A cheque or bank transfer addressed to AME Trade Ltd

 

Step 4: AME Trade Ltd wifl process your visa within seven working days and return your passport to you by registered post.

 

Terms and conditions:

a)     AME Trade Ltd do not take any responsibility for visa applications that are refused based on inaccurate information that the client has supplied to us or any decision made by the Libyan immigration authorities. Please do not submit any passports with Israeli immigration stamps inside, otherwise your visa will automatically be refused, it is better to get a new passport.

b)     The organizers will only start to process visa applications from December 1st 2008 please send us your information as soon as possible so that our files are ready. The last deadline for visa applications will be January 12th  2008

c)      AME Trade Ltd does not take any responsibility for documents that are lost due to the negligence of the postal service.

d)     All visa fees must be paid in advance of visa application either by cheque or bank transfers.

e)      Visa fees include: paying Libyan visa fees at embassy, lodge and collect service, registered post return of your passport. The cost for this is £190. You will be issued with a business visa.
